Lovestruck Tyrone Dobbs has his dreams come true when Corrie hairdresser Maria Sutherland agrees to marry him.

The doting mechanic, played by Alan Halsall, puts behind him the fact that she has cheated on him with Weatherfield County footballer Junior and pops the question.

However, Maria's boss Audrey Roberts and best friend Candice both know she doesn't love Tyrone and do their best to put an end to the engagement.

And Jack and Vera Duckworth are also fiercely against the marriage - they cannot forgive Maria for two-timing the man they treat as their son.

"Maria is in total shock when Tyrone asks her to marry him, because it was the last thing she expected," actress Samia Ghadie, who plays Maria, told the Daily Star.

"But she is determined to try her hardest to make things work. She does like Tyrone, she's just not in love with him.

"I honestly don't think that Maria is using Tyrone as such, it's just that he's kind of her security blanket."
