CCTV cameras will be installed at three Basildon borough parks, namely Wickford Memorial Park, Nevendon Park and Northland Park. Additional cameras will also be installed at the end of Market Lane and Wickford community centre to improve safety. The project, which costs more than £55,000, is part of Basildon Council’s proposed budget.
Cllr Alan Ball, Chairman of Basildon Council’s Regeneration and Environment committee, said: "We are committed to shaping safe communities and protecting our residents from harm. It is important that we listen to our residents and get the basics right, with parks and community facilities contributing to how attractive the borough is. By investing in CCTV we can improve how safe people feel and in turn encourage them to spend more time in the borough and have pride in their communities."
