Work to install seven new cameras in the town of Lye is underway as part of a £1.7million plan, which also involves preparing fibre optic cables and technical installments. The cameras will be installed on the bypass, High Street and Clinic Drive area.
Councillor Laura Taylor, Dudley Council's cabinet member responsible for the CCTV upgrade, said: "It’s great to see work is starting on schedule in Lye and will be a welcome boost to shoppers and traders.
"This is a major investment and is about making sure our town centres, and other key locations are safe and secure.
"To deliver a scheme of this size during a pandemic is an incredible achievement and something that demonstrates our commitment to improving town centres such as Lye."
The scheme will replace old and outdated cameras to allow the council to save on costly repairs. As part of the plan, a new high tech and secure control room will also be built along with the CCTV network.
