CBD 101: Will My CBD Oil Make Me High?
All about cbd. Is it safe? Will it aggravate any health issues. We cover it all in this article
14:35 08 July 2019
The CBD market in the U.S. is growing by leaps and bounds right now. According to one recent report, it could be worth upwards of—get this—$22 billion in America alone by the time the year 2022 rolls around.
Yet, there are still millions of Americans who are just starting to learn about CBD oil and other CBD products for the first time. They're open to giving CBD a try, but they're also asking questions like, "Will my CBD make me high?"
You shouldn't put anything into your body before learning everything that you can about it. That means that you should take some time to educate yourself about CBD before you start using it day in and day out.
From "What is CBD?" to "Will my CBD make me high?", here are the answers to some of people's most common CBD questions.
What Is CBD?
Before we get too far ahead of ourselves and start discussing the ins and outs of CBD, it's important for you to know exactly what it is.
CBD is short for cannabidiol. Cannabidiol is a phytocannabinoid that was first discovered way back in the 1940s. It is one of the more than 100 known cannabinoids found inside of cannabis plants.
Cannabidiol can be extracted from cannabis plants and ingested by humans in many different forms. CBD oil has become the most popular form of CBD, but some people also take CBD capsules or use CBD sprays.
How Is CBD Different From Marijuana?
After reading about what CBD is, there is one word that likely stood out to you: Cannabis.
It's the word that stops a lot of people in their tracks when they're thinking about trying CBD for the first time. They're under the impression that they're going to be using marijuana when they use CBD since they both originate from the same place.
This couldn't be further from the truth! Using CBD and using marijuana are two totally different things and shouldn't be lumped into the same category.
CBD is found in marijuana. But unlike marijuana, CBD doesn't have what's called tetrahydrocannabinol, or THC, in it. THC is one of the other cannabinoids found in marijuana, and it's responsible for producing the "high" that you feel when you use it.
So for all those people wondering, "Will CBD get you high?", the answer is no. It doesn't have enough THC in it to produce the high you expect when using marijuana.
It's worth noting that some CBD does contain trace amounts of THC. This THC could cause some complications if you're ever asked to take a drug test after using CBD.
But the vast majority of people don't run into any issues when using CBD. There is not enough THC in it to do the same things marijuana does to your body.
Is CBD Legal?
As we just mentioned, CBD and marijuana are not one and the same. But there is a strong connection between the two, which is why lots of people ask if CBD is legal.
The answer is yes, but the laws regarding the legality of CBD are unclear in many cases. Since the federal government has long classified CBD and marijuana in the same category, it has led to some confusion over whether or not it's legal to buy CBD.
That being said, CBD manufacturers have made CBD readily available both in stores and online. Some CBD products are even starting to pop up in big-name retail stores all across the country.
In the coming months and years, Congress is expected to make important decisions regarding CBD and its legality. But for now, it's a good idea to check what your state has to say about it and practice some level of caution when purchasing CBD oil and other CBD products.
Is CBD Safe?
A recent study revealed that about 90 percent of the businesses that sell CBD in some form or fashion right now are operating in a "gray area" as far as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration is concerned.
At this time, the FDA has not yet signed off on CBD to be used for medicinal purposes. As a result, businesses that sell it to the public need to be very careful about what they say about CBD and its potential benefits.
With that in mind, there is no one saying, "My CBD is 100 percent safe," at this time. There hasn't been enough research done on CBD yet to conclusively say that CBD is safe.
But one of the things you can do to increase your chances of staying safe while using CBD is by purchasing it from a trusted CBD manufacturer. Look for a company that has been in business for a long time and that tests all their products with help from a third-party tester.

What Are the Benefits of Using CBD?
Just like it's impossible to say with certainty that CBD is safe, it's also impossible to list all of the surefire benefits that come with using it. There are still studies being done on how CBD can help those who take it.
However, those who use it and those who manufacture it both say that it may prove to be beneficial in many ways. Here are some of the ways in which CBD might be able to help you:
- It might be useful to those who suffer from chronic pain
- It might reduce some of the symptoms associated with mental health disorders like anxiety and depression
- It might alleviate the symptoms people suffer through when they're fighting cancer
- It might reduce the amount of acne that a person has on their face and body
- It might work wonders for both the heart and the circulatory system as a whole
- It might help reduce a person's chances of being diagnosed with diabetes
- It might allow people to work their way through substance abuse treatment
CBD appears to have a different effect on everyone who uses it. Some people notice all of these benefits, while others don't notice any of them.
You may need to tinker with the amount of CBD you're using to see real results. Most CBD sellers will tell you to start with a small CBD dose before working your way up while taking note of how each dosage amount affects you.
Does CBD Have Any Side Effects?
CBD might be able to provide you with a long list of benefits when you use it. But there are also certain side effects you'll want to look out for when you're using CBD.
As of right now, the list of side effects is still minimal, especially when you compare it to the list of potential benefits. But it's worth noting that you could be forced to deal with CBD side effects when using it.
Some of these side effects include:
- Fatigue
- Changes in appetite
- Diarrhea
Keep tabs on how CBD affects you when you take it. You might be able to adjust how much you're taking to get rid of the side effects that sometimes come along with using it.
Do Doctors Approve of CBD?
Since the FDA has been slow to study and approve the use of CBD so far, most doctors are still on the fence when asked about it. They're not sure if they should recommend people use it or tell them to hold off.
Don't let that stop you from asking your doctor for their opinion on it anyway. Many doctors are starting to do their own research on CBD to decide if they should tell their patients to take it.
One thing to keep in mind is that CBD might not mix well with certain medications. If you're taking prescription drugs at this time, it's important to talk to your doctor about any harmful interactions that could take place when you use CBD with them.
The last thing you want to do is have CBD offset the benefits of other medications. It's why you should open the lines of communication with your doctor and talk about CBD as soon as you start using it.
Will My CBD Help Me?
Now that you know a little bit more about CBD, you should have a better idea of whether or not you want to try using it. Stop asking, "Will my CBD help me?", and test it out to see what effect it has on you.
As we said earlier, CBD will not get you high. You won't have to worry about it making you loopy or impacting your ability to do your job when you're at work.
But there are other things to think about outside of just that when you're considering CBD. Read our blog to learn more about the benefits that you might enjoy when using it.
