Cardiff council to use additional CCTV cameras to stop drivers from using bus lanes and making banned turns.

Cardiff Council is set to invest in additional traffic enforcement cameras in a bid to curb motorists using bus lanes or making banned turns. Currently, there are a total of 46 traffic cameras across the city.
A report to the council's environment scrutiny committee says: "Cardiff council will continue to explore potential further expansion of enforcement capability to help address key problem areas in the city.
"These include the additional enforcement capability for banned turning movements and bus lanes. Cardiff council will also explore other technology as it becomes available."
Jack Cousens, head of roads policy for the AA, said: “With over £5.75m of revenue from traffic offences alone and budgets being stretched incredibly thin, it is perhaps little wonder that Cardiff council wants to install more cameras to catch drivers who cross into bus lanes and yellow boxes.
“Many councils see drivers as wallets on wheels and, while some clearly flout the rules, many inadvertently find themselves breaking the rules of the road. These are predominantly due to poor signage and junction design and end up with a hefty fine."
