According to a Huawei report, which covers 20 major cities in the UK, Bristol is the most innovative, pioneering and most exciting place to work, live, and play in the country. London is in second place.
The distinction is the fruit of hard work, which has seen the council move its ambitious concepts forward through its City Innovation and Sustainability team. The council’s flagship smart project, called Bristol Is Open, has successfully built a groundbreaking digital research infrastructure within the city. It connected key business locations, including universities, media studios and business incubator units. This plays a crucial role in the development of new technologies, including 5G.
The city council has recently deployed smart city technology to help manage the city. Called City Operations Centre, it brings together and enhances the council’s traffic control, community safety and other capabilities. It also enables the city to effectively manage emergencies.
So far, the technology has successfully addressed key city challenges such as improving business connectivity and creating smart energy and transport systems as well as opening up the city’s data.
