Bristol Smart City Operations Centre
Bristol to start using data gathered by its Smart City Operations Centre to identify future projects and implement new schemes.
14:07 03 April 2018
Bristol City Council is set to use data collected by its new Smart City Operations Centre to improve services, identify possible new projects and implement new schemes that will benefit its residents.
The centre was established to collect data from automatic number plate recognition systems, CCTV feeds in public places and buildings, air quality sensors and telecare devices.
The council is now looking for a partner that will help them commercialise the centre and develop services based on the data it collects. Currently, projects, such as telehealth services and urban traffic management, are being considered in the initial stage of planning. Proposed projects, once approved, will be implemented by operations centre staff in cooperation with other partner agencies, including the University of Bristol, Bristol is Open, clinical groups and emergency services.
In other news, Bristol has been chosen by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) as one of the country’s 5G testbeds in November. The project will be participated by experts from the University of Bristol with BT providing the spectrum and Nokia handling networking and radio access equipment.
