Protesters ask Bristol City Council to switch off 5G over radiation fears.

Campaigners are protesting against the roll out of 5G in Bristol, which has been operational in the city since July 3, over radiation fears.

 

 

 

The petition, which was signed by 5,351 people, was launched by Montpelier nutritional therapist Sally Beare, who said that residents were not consulted about the roll out.

 

 

 

She explained: "The plan is to deliver a giant corrugated plastic letter to the Mayor, Marvin Rees.

 

 

 

"It’s a challenge to the council, saying that we the people haven’t been consulted."

 

 

 

"All of the power is with the telecoms companies. They could decide to put a mast by a primary school and no one could do anything about it."

 

 

 

A separate petition against 5G, signed by 235 scientists and doctors across the world, warns the network will "massively increase" people's exposure to mobile phone radiation they say could cause cancer.

 

 

 

However, Public Health England (PHE) says 5G does not have negative impact on people’s health.

 

 

 

Its head of radiation dosimetry Simon Mann said: “It is possible that there may be a small increase in overall exposure to radio waves when 5G is added to an existing telecommunications network or in a new area.

 

 

 

“However, the overall exposure is expected to remain low relative to guidelines and as such there should be no consequences for public health.”
