An estimated 10 million customers from UK and other countries like China, Nigeria, and Middle East, have flocked several retail stores in the hunt for labels such as Louis Vuitton, Mulberry, Burberry, Gucci, and Prada.
Shoppers queued outside retail shops as early as midnight to ensure that they’ll get the first dibs on the best bargains. During the first day of sales, items on different shops were literally flying off the shelves.
As the doors were opened from 6am, thousands of shoppers ran screaming through stores grabbing designer items left and right. Due to the number of shoppers, police were called and security guards were visible to ensure peace and order. In some stores, tourists from Nigeria, Middle East, and China outnumbered Britons.
For Trafford Centre, this year is their best-ever boxing Day. Selfridges, on the other hand, break their record for taking £1.5m in the first hour.
Aside from customers going to retail stores, online shoppers also made the Boxing Day sale a huge success. Based on reports, UK customers made 113 million visits to retailers’ website on December 26 and almost 200 million visits on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
