Big Savings for Councils with 5G

5G to help Councils save £2.8bn and average household £450 annually, a recent report has claimed.

A recent report released by 02 has claimed that the introduction of 5G will help councils save up to £2.8bn annually and UK cities to generate productivity savings of £6bn. The report added that the next generation mobile network will free up to 1.1million GP hours and help average household save £450 every year.

 

 

At last year’s Ofcom auctions, the four major UK telecoms company spent £1.35bn to purchase rights to use the 5G spectrum. Since then, several 5G tests have been carried out as each company prepares to launch their 5G services commercially next year.

 

 

5G is expected to deliver up to 100 faster speeds than 4G, allowing users to download a full HD movie in less than 10 seconds. 5G will also have much greater capacity and is designed to cope with multiple, simultaneous high-demand applications, such as connected infrastructure, robotics and artificial intelligence. The report also predicts that 5G will pave way for digital health monitoring devices and widescale adoption of high-quality telehealth video conferencing, which can effectively reduce hospital admissions by up to 50per cent.

 

 

For councils, smart refuse collections could cut costs by £1.8bn while the use of smart LED street lighting could offer energy savings of up to £91million per year.
