Better Broadband for Suffolk Project
Better Broadband for Suffolk to sign new contracts with ISPs to achieve 100% superfast broadband by the end of 2020.
20:19 04 May 2018
The Better Broadband for Suffolk project is now looking for ISPs that can help them realise their ambition to achieve 100per cent superfast broadband coverage before 2020 ends.
Currently, 93per cent of Suffolk has access to fixed superfast broadband network with existing deals expected to extend the service to over 98per cent of local premises by mid-2020. The final 2per cent, which represents the “hardest to reach” areas will be covered by the Suffolk Coastal Enabling Broadband Programme Board.
Discussing the project, the council said: A Viability Event was held on 26th February 2018 at East Suffolk House to present the Council’s plans to potential suppliers of broadband services and generate discussion on the feasibility of potential delivery options. Six interested providers attended and received a clear understanding of what the Council was trying to achieve and likely funding available. The event was successful with an agreed decision to proceed on the basis of a “Framework Agreement approach”.
The project, which has a total budget of £250K, is funded by 2017/2018 MTFS (Medium Term Financial Strategy) and contributions by the Suffolk Coastal District Council.
