Bear Grylls 'sacked'
Discovery Channel terminate the adventurer's contract...
10:50 15 March 2012
The Discovery Channel has terminated all current productions with television adventurer Bear Grylls, it has been confirmed.
Grylls, who stars in the channel's Man vs Wild programme, was sacked following a "continuing contractual dispute", says Discovery.
His publicist confirmed the news, saying that they could not reach a "mutual agreement on new programming".
Speaking to the Hollywood Reporter, Heather Krug elaborated, revealing:
"Unfortunately, Bear and Discovery have not been able to come to mutual agreement on new programming, and he disagrees with Discovery's decision to terminate current productions.
"Bear has loved the Man vs. Wild journey and looks forward to producing further cutting edge content again soon for his loyal audience."
Broadcast in the UK as Born Survivor, the programme follows Chief Scout Bear as he is dropped into remote parts of the world and shows the audience how to survive using materials found in the wild.
In 2008, he caused controversy after it was claimed he stayed overnight in a motel, as opposed to in the wilderness.
He told the BBC:
"If people felt misled on how the first series was represented, I'm really sorry for that."
