Ayrshire 5G Mast Rejected

Local council rejects an application for a 5G mast in Ayrshire conservation area.

Mobile phone giant Three's application to build a 5G mobile mast in an Ayrshire conservation area has been formally rejected by the local council. 

 

The 16m high monopole mast proposed in Dreghorn Main street next to the village's library was rejected on the grounds that the structure would have adverse visual impacts on the historic surroundings. Council planners said that the 16m mast will tower above several listed buildings nearby rather than blend in. 

 

A report said: "In summary, it is recognised that the choice of site meets the applicants' technical requirements in terms of network coverage.

 

"Whilst noting that the development would deliver a 5G service to the village, it is not considered that a prominent site in the centre of Dreghorn Conservation Area is best suited for this purpose given the adverse visual impacts this would have on the historic environment.

 

"Whilst noting general support for improved digital infrastructure under Policy 26, it is not agreed that the improved 5G coverage in the locality would outweigh the harm caused to the character or appearance of Dreghorn Conservation Area."
