Apple iPad Dominates Q1 2013 Tablet Sales
Worldwide sales of tablet computers increased by 142.4per cent. Apple remains the largest single seller.

Sales of tablet computers have surged for the first three months of 2013, increasing by 142.4per cent compared to the same time last year according to IDC.
Based on reports, there were 49.2 million tablets shipped from January to March. Strong sales was driven by huge demand for iPad mini, Google Nexus 7, and other smaller-screen devices.
Apple, which enjoyed 43.6per cent market share last year, remains the largest single seller of tablets, shipping 19.5million iPads and iPad minis. This beats prior forecast of 18.7million. Samsung, on the other hand, grabbed 17.9per cent market share after it registered 282per cent growth.
Asus, the maker of Google Nexus 7 tablet, came in third place with 5.5per cent market share. Amazon is in fourth place with a market share of 3.7per cent.
Microsoft tablets made it to the top 5, shipping nearly 900,000 Surface RT and Surface Pro Tablets.
Meanwhile, Android makers shipped 27.8 million units. This is 247per cent higher compared to the last time last year. Vendors for all OS’s, on the other hand, shipped 49 million tablets in the first quarter of 2013.
