Despite some remarkable advances in the field of science, there is much to learn about brain, which up to this day remains a mystery.

Brain Awareness Week celebrates an international campaign that started 20 years ago with the aim to raise awareness of the progress and benefits of brain research. In the last 20 years, there had been several breakthroughs in this field including the development of completely new drugs for inflammatory conditions such as multiple sclerosis. New treatments for brain infections were also introduced while brain tumours and stroke are now more effectively managed.
Despite the amazing progress, there is a lot more to be learned. For instance, we are yet to discover treatments for degenerative diseases such as dementia and motor neuron disease. These conditions take place when neurons wither away and die but until now, even brain scientists do not understand what triggers this event and the actual causes. Several deaths are caused by this condition which is a constant reminder that there are huge remaining challenges in this area.
This Brain Awareness Week, spend a little time alone with your brain and get a deeper understanding on how it works.
