5G Plans in Renfrew
CK Hutchison Networks to unveil plans for a 20-metre-high phone mast in Renfrew.
09:08 04 August 2021
CK Hutchison Networks Ltd has expressed its interest to build a 20-meter-high phone mast adjacent to a bus shelter in Paisley Road, between numbers 234 and 248.
The firm, which is yet to submit formal application documents, has confirmed that "several steps" have already been taken to identify the site. If approved, the 5G mast will be operated by phone network Three.
WHP Telecoms said that it had taken the necessary steps ahead of selecting the spot, which include examining the Radio Communication Agency Mast Register along with its record of other operators' sites and Renfrewshire Council's own mast register. The firm also said it had already analysed the site's planning history and the council's development plan.
The mast is designed to deliver 5G technology to the area. The technology, which was formally introduced in 2019, is up to 100 times faster than 4G, offering download speeds of between 10 and 20 gigabytes per second.
Councillor Jim Paterson, who represents Renfrew South and Gallowhill, has shared a letter from consultants WHP Telecoms via social media. Those who wish to share their thoughts should email the SNP member via cllr.jim.paterson@renfrewshire.gov.uk.
