5G for Rural Communities
Which rural communities are set to benefit from 5G trial?
20:01 16 March 2018
Rural communities in seven areas of the UK, including Lincolnshire and Cumbria, are part of the 5G national roll out.
Groups across the country, including councils, universities and businesses have competed to win a share of a £25million fund to pilot the 5G technology. The goal is to use the next generation mobile network to boost tourism, deliver smart technology and connect poorly served communities.
Aside from Lincolnshire and Cumbria, projects that aim to test 5G are also scheduled to be carried out in Monmouthshire, Perthshire, Inverness-shire and North Yorkshire.
Each region is set to receive Government grants between £2 and £5 million, which Digital Minister Margot James said would show how rural communities could ‘bring together benefits across agriculture, industry and wider society.”
