5G for Northern Ireland
BT Brings 5G to Northern Ireland.
22:12 18 December 2019
Northern Ireland now has access to 5G technology, a ground-breaking next-generation mobile network designed to create solutions that will transform how we live and work. The technology, which is crucial to Northern Ireland’s ongoing digital transformation, is powered by BT. It is expected to play a crucial role in enabling businesses and organisations in forming new strategic partnerships and developing cohesive ecosystems to tackle major societal issues.
Leading the way to Northern Ireland’s digital transformation is Belfast, one of the first six cities in the UK to benefit from EE’s new 5G network. 5G is powerful enough to increase reliability, speed and connectivity and it is expected to drive the economy forward and secure digital advancement.
5G has the capacity to generate substantial amounts of data. This means that it can be combined with artificial intelligence, which can filter the information, extract it and provide meaningful data to the end user. The technology is also expected to revolutionise health care. It has been demonstrated how 5G network could help ambulance paramedics treat patients at the scene of the incident using a remote-controlled ultrasound scan resulting in quicker response times and more accurate diagnosis and treatment.
