5G, the highly anticipated next generation mobile networks, is expected to open up a whole new world with its faster data transmission speeds and shortened latency times. With its capabilities, 5G will benefit so many industries and play a pivotal role for other advancements. For example, the automotive industry will rely on it heavily as it continues to focus its resources on self-driving cars, which require a network that can facilitate multiple interactions between numerous connected devices.
Because of this, major US wireless carriers from around the globe are going all-in on 5G. Verizon is currently in the process of looking to resolve the many transmission barriers while AT&T has introduced its Internet of Things (IoT) platform. These efforts are expected to change and enhance mobile experience once 5G is finally rolled out in 2020.
5G can be used in many applications. It can be used by doctors to examine a patient’s body from a distant operating room while an operator for a construction firm can remotely perform his job to effectively minimise occupational hazards. 5G is also the key to fully enjoy virtual and augmented reality platforms. Instead of watching the NBS Finals on TV, fans can use a VR headset to enjoy a 360-degree courtside view.
