All proprietors of Hackney carriages licensed in Hull are eligible to receive up to £500 grants to help them with the cost of installing CCTV in their vehicles.
Hull City Council announced the scheme today and confirmed that proprietors can now apply for the grant via an online platform. The grant, which is part of the Council's Covid response to support economic recovery, aims to help enhance the night-time economy of the city. The funding was accessed by Hull City Council through the Government Additional Restrictions Grant scheme.
Councillor Aneesa Akbar, Portfolio Holder for Communities, said: “The CCTV grants initiative is part of the Council’s Covid response. The night-time economy of the city continues to be negatively impacted by the pandemic.
“The introduction of CCTV systems in hackney carriages will help to provide higher levels of safety and security for drivers and customers.”
The scheme will be evaluated and if deemed successful, it will also be rolled out to licensed private hire vehicles.
