A lot of people take out travel insurance without knowing the process of filing for a claim should the need arise. Are you one of them? Then, you can use this article as guide.
The first thing that you need to do is to read and fully understand what’s written in your policy to know the type of coverage that you’ve paid for. Also, take note of specific instructions that you need to follow in case of accidents, for example.
For unexpected things like hospitalisation and emergencies, call your insurer’s emergency response team before you take any action. They may require you to follow certain guidelines to ensure that your entitlement for a claim will not be jeopardised.
For travel cancellation, gather documents that your insurer will need to verify if your reason is valid. Documents include death certificate, medical notes, etc. Before you will be issued refund, your insurer will also ask for receipts to prove that you’ve already paid for flight tickets, accommodation, travel tours, etc.
For loss or damaged luggage, you will need to present flight tickets, confirmed itinerary, and correspondence from your airline or travel agent to your insurer. You will also need to present receipts or proof of ownership. If your valuables were stolen, you will also need a copy of police report.
