Wyre Council has agreed to invest £320,000 to bring faster, more reliable broadband service to Thornton's Hillhouse Technology Enterprise Zone. Among those who are set to benefit from improved broadband network infrastructure, which is an extension of the full fibre network provided by Blackpool Council across the Flyde coast, include businesses and residents along the route close to Fleetwood Road.
A report to the council states: "This extension will ensure maximum benefit for the businesses within the EZ and the wider area locally including residential properties nearby."
The Enterprise Zone at Thornton is a sister project of the Blackpool Airport Enterprise Zone launched in April 2016 as part of a Government initiative. It provides huge incentives to businesses to encourage them to move their operations at Squires Gate and Thornton. It offers rate relief of up to a total value of £275,00 over a five-year period where a business moves to the enterprise zone before March 31, 2022. The goal of the scheme is to get businesses to create more jobs for residents.
