Plasterers are also exposed to chemicals and other hazardous materials. In each construction site, there are strict rules on personal protection equipment. Contractors need to abide by these rules to protect each worker.
Fortunately, there is a whole range of protective workwear suited for each type of job. For plasterers, for example, they need to have protective covering for their faces, hands, and feet. Here is a complete look at the categories of plastering workwear used in construction sites.
Eye Protection
There are a number of things that can damage the eyes while plastering. Fumes, splashing liquid, and small particles are only some of the things that can enter the eye and cause harm. Plasterers need to wear protective goggles that comply with specific safety standards. The design and shape of the goggle lens should be enough to cover the eyes completely. It should also be sealed so as not to allow any moisture to penetrate. The lens should be strong enough to withstand impact such as accidental blows. If the plasterer is expected to work outdoors under the sun, the goggles should have UV protection.
Clothing
Plasterers can wear different types of safety clothing while on-site. The most common apparel would be plastering overalls. When working on small projects, DIY overalls may suffice. Depending on the requirement of the job site, a plasterer can also use regular decorators’ overalls or decorators’ trousers. Any clothing worn while plastering should be made from durable fabric. It should be enough to protect the worker from extreme weather conditions such as heat or cold. The clothing should also have some type of waterproof property.
In addition to wearing the right type of clothing, a plasterer should also have accessories such as gloves, mitt cuffs, and wristlets for protecting the hands.
Face mask
Plasterers are prone to developing respiratory problems due to their constant exposure to dust and chemicals. Having a protective covering for their faces is essential in preventing these particles from being inhaled. As much as possible, you must choose a full-face mask with a filter. This provides the maximum level of protection against the inhalation of dust particles and noxious chemicals.
Footwear
If the plasterer is not wearing proper footwear, they can be prone to slipping or may be exposed to accidents. Proper footwear helps a plasterer move around the work area with better traction. It is also highly unlikely that they will slip and fall. Work boots are often the preferred type of footwear on construction sites. There are some brands that specifically manufacture boots for use on construction sites.
Part of ensuring the success of a construction project is to also make sure that each worker is safe and protected from work-related accidents. Workers are also able to perform better when they have all the right equipment and accessories. Aside from that, it is also a legal requirement for contractors to comply with safety requirements.
