The installation of a CCTV system is one of the solutions being proposed to put a stop to the recent spate of burglaries and break-ins in Woodbridge.
During the meeting led by Woodbridge’s Town Council, residents and business owners discussed different options to fight the crime with Inspector Andy Pursehouse from Suffolk Constabulary.
During the meeting, Inspector Pursehouse confirmed that the police were running with a number of leads in regards to the incidents and that these had been provided by CCTV images from the affected areas. The police are still investigating if the perpetrators are locals or coming from other parts of the country.
Residents then discussed with the inspector the best ways of securing their businesses against burglars. Some of their suggestions include increasing police visibility in the area as well as keeping the lights on longer during the night to which Woodbridge Mayor Clare Perkins responded: “We can ask Suffolk County Council the question about keeping the lights on longer but the residents don’t want the lights on all night long.”
In terms of increasing the number of police patrolling the area, Inspector Pursehouse said: “We have response around the county. It could be huge numbers, it could be less. I do try to use my resources as effectively as I can.”
