In February of this year, Samsung has announced its plans to conduct the first 5G fixed wireless access trial in the United Kingdom. Partnering with Arqiva, a leading communications infrastructure company in the United Kingdom, the tech giant has followed through and done just that.
The first field trial of 5G fixed wireless access (FWA) technology in Europe and the UK is now live in Arqiva’s central London headquarters. It is powered by Samsung’s 5G network solutions using Arqiva’s 28GHz mmWave spectrum.
The trial’s goal is to demonstrate the stability of the FWA and why it is a better and cheaper alternative to fiber connectivity. During the trial, the system was able to achieve downlink speeds of around 1GB per second.
The trial is expected to last for four months. Arqiva and Samsung will continue to work together to further maximize the performance capabilities of the system as well as the value of the future network infrastructure.
