Cllr Nathan Pardoe has become the youngest ever mayor to be elected in Winsford. The 30-year-old newly elected mayor is both a town councillor and member of Cheshire West and Chester Council as well as a self-employed software engineer.
Following his win, Cllr Nathan waived his £3,000 mayoral allowance and donated it towards the installation of CCTV cameras to help fight crimes in town's parks.
“I felt it was the right thing to do,” said Cllr Nathan. “I already get an allowance as a CWAC councillor. I thought it would be better to go to something special.
“The council has budgeted for CCTV because of vandalism. It’s nice to add £3,000 to that pot of money.”
Reacting on his win, he said: “Chains, robes and roles are not my thing. I don’t like titles and deference. I can’t get used to being called ‘Mr mayor'. I am naturally quite humble but it is a privilege and being the youngest mayor I hope to modernise the role.
“I want to encourage people to have pride in the town.
“We get a lot of flak we don’t deserve. I think Winsford is a fantastic town with fantastic people and I will do all I can to speak up for us.”
“Councillors are just ordinary people," he said. “It is hard, we often only sit down to tea at 8.30pm with the phone ringing but families of councillors understand why we are doing it.
“I just want to help residents. I am very excited about being an ambassador for my hometown. I will carry on as long as I’m useful.”
