Will Cordon Catch On?
James Cordon to host the US Late Late Show.
12:31 24 March 2015
James Cordon hosts the Late Late Show for the first time this week. He replaces Craig Ferguson.
No stranger to America, Cordon lived in New York during his time in the Broadway play, "One Man, Two Guvnors," after which he moved to LA with his family.
James is confident that his humour will be appreciated in the US, saying, "Funny is funny and if it's good, it travels."
He is aware that shows like the Late Late Show have loyal followers and that familiarity breeds popularity. He is hoping that his personal style will be understood and enjoyed.
Cordon knows it will take time to build a following and to encourage viewers to watch the show. He hopes viewers will give it time before making a decision as to whether they like the new presenter or not. He will also have instant feedback from the live studio audience.
James likened judging the show too soon to tying a souffle before it is cooked.
Guests on his first show will include Tom Hanks and Mila Kunis.
British talk shows sometimes bring all guests to the show on together and the Late Late Show will employ this technique when James is presenting. This gives viewers the chance to see how the guests relate to each other and interact as well as allowing spontaneity.
The show will be on US network CBS at 23:35 CST (04:30 GMT Tuesday)
