It's that time of year again! With the arrival of the new iPhone, many of us are faced with the inevitable: the quest for a new case to protect our shiny upgrade. We often cling to the hope that our old cases will somehow fit the new model, and this year is no exception.
At first glance, the latest iPhone models bear a striking resemblance to their predecessors. Yet, upon closer inspection, subtle yet significant changes become apparent. The iPhone 15 series introduces sleek "contour" edges, making the corners and sides more rounded compared to the iPhone 14 lineup. These slight modifications might seem trivial, but they play a crucial role in how well a case fits.
For those eyeing the Pro versions, there's an additional twist. The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max debut a fresh Action button, taking the place of the traditional mute switch. This change means that cases designed for the previous models might not be the perfect match for the new Pros.
But fear not, we've rolled up our sleeves and conducted some hands-on testing to see how last year's cases fare with the new arrivals. Here's the scoop.
When it comes to the iPhone 14 and 15, the dimensions are nearly identical in width and depth. However, the iPhone 15 stands a tad taller, by roughly the thickness of a credit card. While this might seem minor, it introduces a slight difference in how snugly a case fits, especially with the new contoured design.
We tried slipping an iPhone 14's silicone case onto an iPhone 15, and to our surprise, it hugged the device quite well. Although it lacked the perfect "snap" of a tailor-made case, it does technically fit. So, if you're in a bind, your old case might just do the trick until you find the perfect new companion for your latest iPhone.
