Wigan Council Use CCTV to Catch Businesses Opening During Lockdown

Bars, restaurants and cafes were ordered to remain close until further notice in a bid to tackle the spread of coronavirus.

Wigan Council will use CCTV cameras to ensure that establishments, including bars, restaurants and cafes adhere to the Prime Minister’s directives to close their businesses to public from Friday evening until further notice in a bid to tackle the spread of coronavirus. The Government has also ordered other non-essential shops and gyms to close in a more stringent measures introduced last night.

 

A Wigan Council spokesperson said: “As of 2pm on March 21, 2020, any non-essential businesses found to be open can be shut by enforcing new law in England and Wales due to the threat to public health.

 

“We recognise the financial impact closing is having on our businesses, however we would urge businesses to comply with the new restrictions to help keep our residents safe and avoid facing legal action, including losing their license indefinitely.

 

“The council will be utilising CCTV in conjunction with Greater Manchester Police to identify businesses that are breaching the legislation.

 

“But during these uncertain times for everybody, we are doing all we can to support our local businesses.
