WiFi Motion Detection
Origin Wireless has discovered a method to detect motion in a room using signals from mesh-enabled Wi-Fi routers.

For the process, a transmitting router sends out signals that bounce around the room before reaching another router or the receiver. If motion is detected, the transmission of signals will be delayed and this can be recognised by a software.
This can have a number of applications aside from home security market. Because it can track movement down to one or two centimetres, it can be used to monitor breathing rates or elderly individuals who are prone to falls. These can help ease the workload of nurses at assisted living facilities and hospitals.
The technology also allows businesses to reduce the price of their monitoring system as well as allow for faster, cost-effective expansion. It also lowers barriers for consumer adoption for smart home monitoring.
