A simple solution to dramatically increase battery life on rarely used devices – disable WiFi during sleep.

Many of us have an extra, rarely used phone or tablet that lies around the house or office. Some us use them as remote controls for smart home appliances while others use them for testing, browsing or reading. Many times, we find this extra phone completely drained even if we haven’t used it in a while.
A simple solution to avoid this from happening frequently is to disable WiFi during sleep. All Android devices have this option in their WiFi setting; it is called Keep WiFi on during sleep. The default setting is Always but if you want to increase battery life, set it to Never.
In an experiment conducted by Android Police, a Galaxy Tab S3, which was draining empty despite zero activity and screen time, shown a dramatic improvement of idle battery usage when the WiFi during sleep was disabled – only 3per cent battery use in one day!
You can also prolong your gadget’s battery life by using third-party apps, such as WiFi Automatic that overrides Android settings and periodically turn on/off WiFi to check for notifications without draining the battery all the time.
