You read that right: Microsoft is giving its newest version of Windows for free. But why?
In the past, Microsoft has relied heavily on Windows for much of its revenue. However, when it launched Windows 10 recently, the company made it clear that it will be given free to all users. This is because the company has found new sources of income and it could be more than what they earn from Windows.
The company no longer considers Windows as a product and though it is now for free, Microsoft could still make more money.
The main goal of the company is to get everyone onto the same operating system, which software developers will surely appreciate.
This move will help Microsoft to sell more apps through its own store – just like what Apple does. Simply put the more developers who want to sell apps for Windows phones and computers, the more money that comes back to Microsoft.
The strategy has already been tested by Apple and it is proven to drive purchases of new devices after all.
