White Stripes star to wed

Meg White, who rose to fame as the drummer in the rock duo The White Stripes, is engaged to guitarist Jackson Smith.

Jackson Smith is the son of iconic punk rock singer Patti Smith and the late MC5 guitarist Fred Smith.

According to reports in the Detroit Free Press, the couple will tie the knot at a May 22 ceremony in Nashville, Tennessee.

"They don't want it to be a circus," the paper quotes a source as saying. "They want it to be about the two of them."

Meg White's representative stated to People.com: "I can confirm Meg and Jackson will be married some time this year".

The drummer was previously married to her White Stripes band mate Jack White before they divorced in 2000.

Jack White has since married British model Karen Elson in 2005 and the couple have two children.

The White Stripes are currently on hiatus. Jack White is preparing for the June release of his album with his new band Dead Weather.
