Kirio, the first fully open smart home solution that controls virtually any wired or wireless device, appliances or system has been used in automating a $1.2million tri-level home in Seattle. Instead of a DIY system homeowners buy after moving into a place, builders installed Kirio along with a bunch of sensors and other devices during construction. 

 

Kirio controls the Nest on the wall as well as the home’s water system. Kirio can turn off the water system if a sensor detects a leak or if a toilet is constantly running. It can also control the lights, fireplace, locks, ovens, and gas.

 

Kirio comes with apps that allow you to control devices individually in groups or with ‘scenarios.’ For instance, your nighttime scenario might shut off the internet connection, all the TVs and lights in the house, lock the doors, and lower the blinds. Kirio has the ability to learn and adapt to users habits. For example, if you are constantly working late, your nighttime scenario may turn off all the lights in the house but not the ones in your home office. 

 

Kirio is compatible with about 8,000 devices from a variety of brands. It also has a built-in seismic sensor that could shut off the gas, water and even electricity if things start to shake.
