What are Self Lacing Shoes?
Nike becomes the first to launch a pair of app-controlled self-lacing shoes.
15:35 22 January 2019
Nike has recently launched a new pair of connected shoes that you can lace using a dedicated app. Called the Nike Adapt BB, it features power laces that you can tighten or loosen by pressing a button either on the shoes or through a connected smartphone app. The shoes, which will go on sale in the US for £272, come with a recharging mat.
During the launch, the company confirmed that the shoes were specifically designed for basketball. They can be programmed to remember different fit settings to suit the preference of the user. There are plans to expand the technology used in the shoes to other sports and shoe ranges in the future.
Nike has previously launched a range of automatically lacing shoes in 2016 and a limited edition pair of self-lacing shoes inspired by those worn by Michael J Fox's character Marty McFly in the 1989 film Back to the Future.
