A 64kg Great Dane dog is recovering after swallowing 43 and a half socks. US veterinary surgeons who were operating on the dog got the shock of their lives upon discovering the cause of their patient’s condition.
The animal pros confirmed that it was the most socks they had pulled out of a single animal.
In a statement, the DoveLewis Emergency Animal Hospital said: "The x-rays revealed a large amount of foreign material in the dog's stomach, at which point the dog was taken into surgery to have the material removed.”
"That 'material' ended up being 43.5 socks, much to everyone's surprise! The dog recovered smoothly and was discharged home the next day."
However, the Great Dane just wasn’t great enough when it came to a contest entitled "They Ate WHAT?", organised by vet magazine Veterinary Practice News. He finished third behind a frog that ate over 30 ornamental rocks and a dog that devoured a shish kebab skewer.
