Band Aid 30's video for the revamped version of the hit charity single Do They Know It's Christmas Time? made its debut on the X-Factor on Sunday night.
Sir Bob Geldof, who spearheaded the original charity concert Live Aid, stated that the music video was something the X-Factor audience should see but warned that it was 'harrowing and not suited to an entertainment show'
The Boomtown Rats frontman went on: ‘Thanks Simon for allowing us to do this, this is hardcore, to allow X factor nation to do this, it is an enormous production, this thing [Ebola] could arrive here on a plane any time.'
The song is populated with a wealth of musical talent old and new including One Direction, Rita Ora, Ed Sheeran, Emeli Sande, Ellie Goulding, Sam Smith, Chris Martin, Elbow, Seal, Jessie Ware, Fuse ODG, Sinead O'Connor, Angelique Kidjo, Olly Murs, Paloma Faith, Queen drummer Roger Taylor, Clean Bandit and Bastille.
The lyrics have been updated 30 years since the original version to move the focus away from starving children and instead shine the spotlight on the Ebola crisis. The video has a similar theme to the 1984 original and shows the stars arriving to their record their parts while the whole group come together for the chorus.
Geldof stated: 'This is the most anti-human disease but we can stop it, and we will stop it, and we will support those immensely brave NHS doctors and soldiers who have volunteered, and the government who are leading the world on this.
'For the first time this is about us, buy this thing, buy five by ten, it’s a great track, we wanted to show you the context of how this was done only yesterday’.
The download is out now with the physical release coming out in three weeks.
