Virtual food market Mercarto to deliver essentials to key workers and vulnerable people during COVID-19 crisis.

Mercarto Fresh, a Manchester-based technology company, has recently launched a service to help vulnerable people get their essentials the safer way during the COVID-19 crisis.
The service has been designed to arrange delivery for food, such as fruits and vegetables, eggs and bread to the doorsteps of those who are in need including healthcare workers and the elderly.
Mercarto's move followed reports involving NHS staff being confronted with empty supermarket shelves after finishing their shifts. To help those who are most at need in these difficult times, the team quickly switched their focus from building online stores for businesses to developing a virtual food market for public use.
Sean Brown, Mercarto founder and CEO, said: "As this national crisis began to escalate, we knew we had to look at the resources available to us and think about how they could be used to help people who are struggling to buy food online."
"Whilst consumers are struggling to access fresh produce, the local producers I have spoken with are struggling with an influx of demand that is unmanageable. Mercarto Fresh helps to manage that demand while adding delivery direct to consumers within a matter of hours."
