Michael Vaughan has revealed that he may bat at number four in the second Test with New Zealand at Headingley.

The England captain, better known for leading from the top of the order, has declared himself fit for this week's clash with the Kiwis after recovering from a freak training accident at Lord's.

Vaughan missed the first Test win with a knee injury, and saw Andrew Strauss shine in his absence.

The Middlesex batsman scored 112 and 83 in his two innings', prompting Nasser Hussain to decide the time was right to retire from the game.

And Strauss's form has left Vaughan thinking the team may benefit more if he takes over Hussain's mantle further down the order.

"There is a good chance I will go down to number four," Vaughan said.

"I'm not too fussed about it to be honest. I always think that if you can bat, you can bat anywhere."

Vaughan played in Yorkshire's Totesport League win over Scotland at the weekend, and has no concerns about being ready to play on Thursday.

"It's fine. I trained pretty hard last week and the rehab went pretty well," he said.

"Plus I have come through a good game of cricket which was a good test.

"What happened at Lord's was just bad luck and I'm hoping it never happens again. I'm going into the game on Thursday 100 per cent fit."
