USA End Net Neutrality

Net neutrality to come to an end on 11th June.

US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has voted to overhaul the laws surrounding data and to end net neutrality. The regulator hopes that changing the way ISPs are regulated will allow them to focus on innovation and the development of new tech to support 5G infrastructure.

 

In a statement, FCC Chairman Ajit Pai said: “On June 11, we will have a framework in place that encourages innovation and investment in our nation’s networks so that all Americans, no matter where they live, can have access to better, cheaper, and faster Internet access and the jobs, opportunities, and platform for free expression that it provides,”

 

“And we will embrace a modern, forward-looking approach that will help the United States lead the world in 5G, the next generation of wireless connectivity.”

 

The FCC voted 3 to 2 to end net neutrality in December but Pai stalled the official announcement as they wait for a report by the US Office of Management and Budget (OMB) agency that sets out how ISPs must communicate how they manage their networks.

 

“For months, many politicians and special interests have tried to mislead the American people about the Restoring Internet Freedom Order,” Pai said. “Now everyone will be able to see the truth for themselves."
