"Underworld", one of the surprise hits of 2003, is set for a sequel.

The film's screenwriter and co-creator Danny McBride has said filming will begin this autumn for a 2005 release.

"The new film will carry the story further as well as incorporate a few prequel sequences, which should be extremely cool," McBride told The Trades website.

"From the very start, [co creator and director Len Wiseman] and I were interested in creating an Underworld trilogy. In short, we've always had a prequel in mind."

McBride confirmed that Kate Beckinsale and Scott Speedman will be back for the sequel.
