UK’s first electric flying taxi lifts off!
12:21 13 September 2018
Vertical Aerospace, a Bristol-based start-up, could be bringing electric flying taxis into the scene in as little as four years. The firm, which has been developing electric aircraft vehicles specifically designed for vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL), has recently completed its first ever test flight, which saw its 750kg aircraft flying across Cotsworld Airport in Gloucestershire.
Founder Stephen Fitzpatrick said: “The UK has a real opportunity to lead the world in eVTOL technology. We have a rich heritage in aviation. World-class engineers and technical experts train and work here. We have the global outlook and entrepreneurial spirit required to develop and commercialise this technology,”
“Designing and building technology with such disruptive potential could ultimately bring thousands of highly skilled jobs to the UK and secure our place at the forefront of aviation innovation. With the right support from the government, regulators and the wider science and engineering community, the UK can lead the way in personal, on-demand and carbon-free air travel.”
Other companies that have joined the race in developing flying cars include Kitty Hawk with its new vehicle called The Flyer and Uber, which has recently revealed that it is teaming up with NASA to launch a fleet of flying taxis.
