US President-elect Donald Trump took to Twitter suggesting he wants to cancel the order for new planes to carry the American president due to high costs.
He tweeted: "Boeing is building a brand new 747 Air Force One for future presidents, but costs are out of control, more than $4 billion. Cancel order!"
The government has ordered at least two new planes from Boeing that are scheduled to be used around 2024.
Meanwhile, the White House appeared to disagree with the figures quoted by Mr Trump.
White House spokesman Josh Earnest said: "Some of the statistics that have been cited, shall we say, don't appear to reflect the nature of the financial arrangement between Boeing and the Department of Defence,"
Following the president-elect’s tweet, Boeing shares fell more than 1per cent but recovered in the afternoon trading.
Mr Trump also announced on Tuesday that Japan’s SoftBank has agreed to invest $50bn in the US creating 50,000 jobs. He then tweeted that SoftBank CEO Masayoshi Son “said he would never do this had we (Trump) not won the election!"
