Recent expansion into online gambling on an individual state level is currently limited to:
- New Jersey
- Pennsylvania
- Delaware
- Nevada
- West Virginia
There are some other states that are in the process of adding online gambling applications to complement their existing land-based casino operations. In light of these plans, expansion of the entire casino industry in the US will certainly continue over the coming years. Along with land-based betting venues, this makes it as easy as ever to find a casino near you.
Here is a closer look at a few of the most progressive states in the country when it comes to real money online casino gambling.
New Jersey Online Casino Gambling
The Garden State has been leading the charge when it comes to legal online casino gambling. Legal online gambling sites became legal in 2013. This opened the door for land-based casinos in Atlantic City to apply for internet gaming permits that would allow them to also offer casino gambling online.
A few of the top online casinos available to residents and guests in New Jersey include:
- Betfair NJ which is affiliated with The Golden Nugget. This Atlantic City casino also operates SugarHouse Online Casino.
- 888Casino is associated with Caesars along with Caesars Casino Online.
- Borgata Online is Borgata’s online site as the largest casino in Atlantic City from an annual revenue standpoint. It also operates Party Casino and Pala Online Casino.
- Unibet is the online site for the Hard Rock Atlantic City as one of the newer land-based casinos in this coastal New Jersey casino gambling destination.
- Virgin Online Casino and Tropicana Online are both associated with the Tropicana.
Combined, online casinos in New Jersey brought in an excess of $130 million in revenue in 2018.
Pennsylvania Online Casino Gambling
The Keystone State also ranks high on the list with its progressive approach to gambling throughout the state. There are stand-alone land-based casinos in all the busy metro areas of the state. Other gambling venues are tied to the state’s racetracks for horse racing.
Expansion into online casino gambling was part of a comprehensive gambling expansion bill that also included legal sports betting. There are 13 land-based casinos operating in PA and 10 of those venues applied for an online license when they became available. The state is still in the process and getting things up and running online with a target date of July of this year.
A few of the online sites with ties to land-based casinos are 888Casino, SugarHouse Casino and PokerStars. MGM and Golden Nugget received approval in January to operate an online casino in the state.
Delaware Online Casino Gambling
Delaware was actually the first state in the country to legalize online gambling. It offers three online casino gambling sites tied to its three racinos; Delaware Park, Dover Downs and Harrington Raceway. The state reported revenues of $2.6 million at the three sites in 2018.
