Coronation Street's psycho killer Tony Gordon asks his victim's widow to marry him a year to the date after he arranged the murder.
Tony, played by Grey O'Brien, pops the question to Maria Sutherland when the two are standing over her former lover Liam Connor's grave.
He tells her: "I have never felt like I do about any one else – even Carla. You and the baby are everything I'll ever want for the rest of my life.
"Marry me Maria! I want you to be my wife and I want baby Liam to be my son."
Maria (Samia Smith) holding her newborn baby son, who she named after his late father, accepts Tony's proposal and ecstatically announces: "Yes, yes, of course! Of course I will. Oh Tony I love you so much."
The storyline will make way for the return of Tony's ex, Carla Connor (Alison King), who fled the Street when she discovered that Tony had arranged for Liam to be killed.
An insider told The Sun: "These scenes will be the start of the build-up to the dramatic return to Weatherfield of Carla.
"She will be hell-bent on destroying their relationship when she comes back and discovers that Tony is engaged to Maria."
