Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers’ June 8th concert at the Henry Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles was cut short by fire marshals due to overcrowding. Nearly 90 minutes into their first set, the fire marshal informed the musicians that the audience was nearly 100 people over capacity.
According to reports, Petty then addressed the crowd after a cover of the Grateful Dead’s Friend of the Devil. The crowd was supposedly disappointed with the turn of events.
Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers released a statement about the incident saying: “First and foremost, the safety of our fans is our primary concern and the most important consideration. To those fans who attended last night’s show at the Fonda Theatre, we are as frustrated as you are!”
They added that they are still investigating what happened.
They confirmed that their shows at the Fonda on Monday and Tuesday night will go ahead as planned.
