With news of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes divorce breaking, some have noticed a trend: all three of his ex-wives filed for divorce when they reached 33 years old.
Prior to Katie Holmes, Tom Cruise was married to Mimi Rogers and Nicole Kidman, and her marriages with all three women went downhill when the women reached their early thirties. This led some fans to postulate that the number 33 might be related to Scientology, the actor’s religion.
Tom’s first marriage was to Mimi Rogers. The wedding took place in May of 1987 when the actress was 31. They broke up in 1990 when she was 33.
Tom was then married to Nicole Kidman, with whom she stayed married to for ten years. In 2001, however, the couple split. Kidman was only 33.
Now, Katie Holmes, 33, has filed for divorce. The two were married in 2006 when Holmes was just 28.
Celebrity news reporter Perez Hilton delved into Scientology to determine whether the number had any significance in the said religion. As it turns out, the first Church of Scientology, which was established in Phoenix, Arizona, was located along the 33rd parallel.
In numerology, on the other hand, the number 33 stands for “master teacher” and is represented by Michael, the Archangel. It is linked to the power of healing through love and is believed to symbolize a life path characterized by selfless and unconditional love.
Despite these positive associations, the number proves unlucky for Tom.
However, the church of Scientology revealed that it will not recognize the divorce, saying that Katie blindsided Tom by filing for divorce and seeking sole custody of Suri. Sole custody would, of course, mean that Katie can remove Suri from the church of Scientology.
The grounds for divorce were cited as irreconcilable differences.
