Tom Cruise and Paramount pictures are now being sued by screenwriter Timothy Patrick McLanahan who claims that the movie Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol was actually inspired from his script Head On.
He is asking for $1 billion, which is a rough estimate of the film’s box office takings, home entertainment sales and rental licensing deals.
In the legal documents, McLanahan said: 'In 1998 I had written a screenplay called Head On.
'After submitting it to the U.S. Copyright Office, Head On received a copyright certificate protecting its material and author from unauthorized use.'
'I immediately recognized that the scripts for this movie had been illegally written and produced from Head On‘s 1998 copyright.’
He did not however give details as to how his script and the movie were alike.
Cruise’s next film is Edge Of Tomorrow co-starring Emily Blunt, which will be released on June 6.
