If you want to build your own gaming PC, then there are a few things that you need to know. First of all, anyone can do it and this is especially the case when you have a solid guide to teach you. Secondly, gaming PCs can be worth a lot of money when they’ve been built properly, so you never know, you may even be able to make a profit!

 

Decide what you Want

 

The first thing that you need to do is decide what type of gaming PC you want. Think about it, do you want one that can keep up with the various games that are coming out? Or do you want one so you can look up websites for playing free games? When you have your answer, you can then find out the basic specs that you need to shoot for so you can build a system that is completely catered to your requirements.

 

Buy a Magnetic Screwdriver

 

You should always have a magnetic screwdriver to hand. The main reason for this is because they are way easier to use and they also significantly reduce the chances of you dropping some of the screws into the crevices of the case. The last thing that you want is to have to shake the PC because you have dropped a screw right to the bottom.

 

Start with the Monitor

 

If you are choosing to build a PC, then you need to do everything methodically. If you want to get into PC gaming then you need to know what monitor you want to use. For example, if you want a 4K monitor then you are going to have to choose a high-end graphics card. If you want a basic monitor to run 1080p on the other hand, then there is a high chance that you don’t need to have a high-end graphics card at all. Sure, it can be tempting to pick a huge range of parts, throw them together and see what happens but this won’t do you any favours. You need to strategically plan everything, and you also need to work hard to achieve the goals that you have set out for yourself.

 

Don’t Put the Motherboard in Right Away

 

If you have ever tried to build your own PC before then you will know that a lot of things can get quite fiddly. This often stems from the difficulty of actually reaching into the case in order to install the right parts. If you want to help yourself here, then you need to install the CPU and the RAM before you go ahead and put the motherboard into the case. This will give you more light and it will also help you to position things much better too.

 

Don’t Worry about Static

 

You have probably heard time and time again that it’s very easy for electricity to get into your system and in some instances, it can even fry your computer parts too. If you have a woolly jumper or even a fuzzy carpet then this can generate enough charge to absolutely destroy your hardware. You need to know that stories like this are often rare and that most of the time, you won’t have to worry about static. Sure, it’s possible for things like this to happen and that’s why components tend to come in anti-static bags, but all in all, it’s not likely. It should be noted that when you are building your PC, you may hear static bangs. This is a sound that is created when the static from your hands or even your chair comes into contact with the static from the system. Again, this is nothing to worry about and although it can make a noise, it doesn’t mean that it is actually harming your system.

 

16GB is Good Enough

 

The amount of RAM that you will need will actually depend on what you really want to use your computer for. If you want to have a gaming PC then 8Gb is usually all you’ll need. If you do feel the need to go for something a bit more high-end then you will need to go for 12 or 16GB instead. It’s way safer and it is going to benefit you in every possible way. Of course, there are plenty of uses for RAM outside of gaming too. It’s very easy for you to put 4 x 8GB sticks in a high-end build if you want and this is great if you are handling a lot of productivity tasks.

 

Cut down on Cables

 

Nobody likes to have a ton of wires to deal with and this is especially the case with your own build. Power supplies or even PSUs are often huge contributors to this type of problem, and they can also cause issues too. One way for you to get around this would be for you to use a semi-modular mode. If you use something like this then this means that all of the cables you could ever need come pre-attached. This is the best way for you to do it and it will save you a lot of money too. It’s even possible for you to go one step further. If you want to do this then you should try and use a modular PSU. This will have no cables attached and the best thing about it is that you won’t have to worry about wires and you can also customise your ports too. They tend to be way pricier when compared so you may not be able to have it if you are going overboard on your system.
