Flexioffices, a supplier of serviced office spaces across Britain, has conducted a survey in which they asked 2,000 people from across the country about the real reasons why they would typically call in sick from work.
1. Attend a job interview – 31per cent of the respondents admitted to calling in sick to go to a job interview elsewhere.
2. Hangover – 23per cent said that they’ve taken a sick day because they have had too much to drink the previous night.
3. Watch a major sporting event – 11per cent said that they skip work to watch a major sporting event.
4. To get a tan – A good number of respondents said that great weather and getting a tan are enough reasons to skip work.
5. It’s Monday – Many 18-24 years old in the East of England say that they call in a sickie simply because it’s Monday and wanted to have an extra rest day following a heavy weekend.
6. (Inter-office) Break-ups. A lot of workers call in sick after someone in the same workplace dumped them.
7. Love over work – Some respondents admitted to calling a sickie to prepare for a big date with the South West of England being the most likely to put romance before the daily grind.
8. Bad haircut – a huge percentage of 18-24 years old working in London would call in a sickie over a bad haircut proving that they are particularly bothered about their appearance.
9. Last day of the sales – The survey suggests that women in the East Midlands would opt to indulge in a little retail therapy than doing their work in the office.
10. Woke up with a huge spot on the face – the least likely reason for someone to call in sick in the rundown was having a huge spot on their face.
